Video: ‘From the Top’ Comes to Bowdoin

From the Top, the NPR program featuring performances and personal stories from young classical musicians from around the country, recorded a program in Kanbar Auditorium, Studzinski Recital Hall in early 2012. The episode was broadcast nationally the week of March 19.

The program, hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O’Riley, was co-founded by Bowdoin alumnus Gerald Slavet ‘61. The Bowdoin broadcast features 19-year-old pianist and Bowdoin sophomore Allen Wong Yu. Yu is an alumnus of From the Top, having appeared on the show when he was in high school.

Yu always knew he wasn’t going to take his considerable musical talent to a conservatory—his varied interests were too broad to limit his studies to the piano. That’s why Bowdoin and the liberal arts were perfect for this extraordinary 19-year old from Cohoes, New York. (Video: Bowdoin College, Smith Atwood Video Services; Editing: Alex Colby ’10)
