Our Brains on Classical Music Vs. Pop Music (Pacific Standard)

New research derived from a small study suggests that our brains respond differently to classical music and pop music. While the sub-cortical region appears to be more sensitive to popular music, the cortical region is more responsive to classical music, as are cognitive regions associated with empathy. Over all, the results seem to provide evidence that “our response to classical music is far richer than our reaction to simple tunes.” Read the article.
