Free college education could become a reality this year for thousands of students in New York, reports the Christian Science Monitor.

Governor Anthony Cuomo, a Democrat, began 2017 by outlining a plan to offer tuition-free education at New York state colleges for any qualifying student whose family earns less than $125,000 a year. But Cuomo’s proposal, which he hopes will be copied in other states, is subject to approval by the state legislature, which includes a Republican-controlled Senate.
