A Bible Update Stokes Controversy (The Atlantic)

But recently a committee of prominent theologians edited the phrase in the English Standard Version of the Bible, which is a translation popular with evangelicals.

The ESV has replaced the phrase “your desire shall be for your husband” with “your desire shall be contrary to your husband.” And this, according to The Atlantic, suggests that women naturally oppose their husbands and are responsible for marital discord. Some worry that this small edit could have the potential to shape evangelicals’ thinking about women’s role in marriage. Read the article.
