Scott Budde ’81 Starts New Maine Credit Union Focusing on Local Food

farmer Scott Budde ’81 and his partners are launching a new credit union, Maine Harvest, that will focus on strengthening the state’s food economy. Maine Harvest Credit Project will lend primarily to businesses such as farms, restaurants, fisheries, and breweries. While the number of farms in Maine has grown 13 percent since 2006, financing remains an obstacle of growth, according to Maine Harvest, with a $90 million unmet demand for small farm mortgages, and $95 million in unmet demand for credit lines, equipment loans, and startup costs.
