Spoken-word Artist Esther Nunoo ’17 on Her Time in India

Esther Nunoo ’17, who has been studying away in the city of Madurai, in southern India, has shared a video in which she recites a poem about a girl feeling ashamed of her poor English. In the second part of the video, Nunoo reflects in a candid and refreshing way on her time away.

“I hear a girl apologize, apologize for her bad English,” Nunoo performs, “apologize for her rich and jealous language that refuses to share space on her tongue with any other language.”
