Prof. Nadia Celis Receives Award for New Book

The 2016 Premio Iberoamericano Award Committee of the Latin American Studies Association has awarded an honorable mention to Nadia Celis’s book, La rebelión de las niñas: El Caribe y la “conciencia corporal” (The Rebellion of Girls: The Caribbean and “Corporeal Consciousness”).

Celis, an associate professor of Romance languages and literatures, specializes in 20th- and 21st-century Latin American, Hispanic Caribbean and Latino Literature
, among other subjects.

La rebelión de las niñas, published in 2015, is a study of the representation of girlhood in the work of Hispanic Caribbean women writers, as well as a critique of the multifaceted relation of power and gendered bodies in Caribbean cultures. Read more about the book.
