The film Spotlight won the Oscar for best picture last night, having “provided the most satisfyingly emotional experience,” says The Los Angeles Times. The film tells the story of The Spotlight Team, the Boston Globe‘s investigative reporting team that exposed the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church in 2001. Read more about Spotlight’s Oscar win in The Boston Globe.

Scott Allen ’83, the current editor of The Spotlight Team, helped lead the Globe’s coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings and ensuing manhunt, coverage that earned a 2014 Pulitzer Prize. Allen will delver the Cassidy Lecture, “From Watergate to ‘Spotlight’: Investigative Journalism in Democracy” March 8 in Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center. The talk is free and open to the public. It will also be streamed live; bookmark this link and watch it March 8 at 7:30 p.m.
