40 Explanatory Maps of the Middle East (Vox)

Vox has compiled 40 maps of the Middle East, including ones showing the extent of the Ottoman empire, the current divide between Sunni or Shia populations, and which nations recognize Israel, Palestine or both. They help make visible some of the complex politics of the region. Check out the maps.
