One Year Later: DeRay Mckesson ’07 Reflects on Twitter’s Role in Ferguson (New York Times)

Activist, protester and organizer DeRay Mckesson ’07 appeared in the national media again this week, discussing his role —and that of Twitter — in the Ferguson protests.

Mckesson is one of three activists featured in The New York Times reflecting on their experiences at Ferguson and the aftermath. “The power of Twitter is the power of the story,” Mckesson explains. “Twitter became a way for us to talk to each other in ways that weren’t mediated by dominant culture.”

Mckesson covered similar issues on campus last spring when he delivered the talk,”Ferguson, Social Media and the Common Good.”
