So Much To Sea: Freeman ’17 and Schuldt ’18 Embark on Tall Ship Adventures

Two students have spent part of their summers learning the ropes at sea aboard a tall ship. Earlier this summer, Danielle Freeman ’17 participated in a SEA (Sea Education Association) Semester program that took her on a transatlantic crossing, navigating from Cape Cod, Mass., to Cork, Ireland, aboard a 134′ tall ship, doing scientific research while learning aspects of sailing. Madeline Schuldt ’18 is currently aboard one of the first scientific research voyages to the Phoenix Islands, a largely unexplored region of the Pacific Ocean. She is among 22 undergraduates from colleges and universities across the country that are helping to complete some of the first comprehensive oceanographic surveys of the Phoenix Islands Protected Area.
