Millennials: Self-Centered or ‘Individualistic’? (NPR)

Man taking a self portraitCritics of the millennial generation are quick to characterize millennials as self-centered and even narcissistic, a perspective which is easily symbolized by the image of a teenager taking a selfie. However, some researchers argue that today’s young adults are not self-obsessed, but are taking advantage of a changing definition of adulthood.

Researcher Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, who defines this new stage of life as “emerging adulthood,” says that an emphasis on self-discovery is also related to the reduced social pressure to marry, especially for young women. Read the article here.
