Bowdoin Dedicates New Classroom to Ambassador Pickering ’53, H’84

The Thomas R. Pickering ’53, H’84 Classroom in Hubbard Hall

After transforming the former reading room on the second floor of Hubbard Hall into a classroom, Bowdoin held a small ceremony last night to dedicate the new space to Thomas Pickering ’53, H’84.

Pickering holds the rank of Career Ambassador, the highest in U.S. Foreign service. In a diplomatic career spanning five decades, he has served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Russian Federation, India, Israel, El Salvador, Nigeria and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Several of Pickering’s friends from the Class of 1953 joined Pickering for the celebration. The class made a generous donation to the room, helping pay for the acoustic and technological upgrades that make it usable now as a teaching space. Read the full story and see the slideshow.
