Whether it’s guilty gossip on celebrity feuds or reactions to the Supreme Court hearings on same-sex marriage, social media fluidly interacts with how the public receives their news. The Pew Research Center’s Journalism Project, in collaboration with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation explore how social media influences the public’s way of reading news and interacting with the news. Among the findings include that visitors who go directly onto a news site are much more likely to engage longer in a story than readers who get to the site through Facebook or through a search. See seven other takeaways from the study here.
