Recent research suggests that life-long intellectual stimulation can help stave off the decline in cognition and memory that comes with old age. Participants who continued to read, write letters, and look things up in libraries for the last six years of their lives even showed less physical decline in their brains post-mortem. “So if you’re headed to the beach,this Scientific American article says, “don’t forget a hat and a book, both to protect your head.”
