Mortality, As Experienced by Christopher Hitchens (Brain Pickings)

British-American author and true contrarian Christopher Hitchens pursued his lifelong crusade against religion up until his death to cancer, writing what Maria Popova describes as a “gripping and lucid meditation on death as it was unfolding” in his book Mortality.

In the book, Hitchens deconstructs many metaphors commonly used about and around death, challenging death’s normative psychology while also revealing “the sheer human terror of ceasing to exist.”
