In his new book, In Praise of Copying, Marcus Boon “argues that originality is more complicated than it seems, and that imitation may be the sincerest form of being human.” At a recent reading for the book, Mr. Boon, an associate professor of English at York University, in Toronto, read from several works by other writers, a stunt that highlighted his proposition that ideas belong in a ‘cultural commons.’
