The city of Detroit filed for bankruptcy last week. The filing will impact many people, but will hopefully also serve as a “moment where maybe Detroit can start to move forward,” as Mariam Noland, president of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan, said in a recent Wall Street Journal article. Some of Detroit’s neighborhoods have experienced a revival in recent years, but others have declined, as evidenced by the buildings that stand abandoned and crumbling.
