The new book Mastermind: How To Think Like Sherlock Holmes argues that by channeling the great fictional detective, people can become more mindful and intuitive, and therefore more innovative in business, writes Steve Rubel of LinkedIn.
For instance, companies that reward curiosity in their employees are setting up an environment of creativity, since one quality of mind leads to the other, the book’s author, Maria Konnikova, says.
Sherlock Holmes was also masterful at concentrating. The modern-day Holmes in the BBC series never answers his cell phone because it would interrupt his flow. Plus, he’s great at filtering information. “Data is powerful, but it also can be be smog, too,” Kubel says.
